Hello Autumn,

Thank you for coming, making your annual visit to me. You know, I wait for you, the whole year long. You know I love you. Right???

I love the aroma that spreads in the air, on your homecoming. I love the unprecedented golden harvest, your arrival brings for all of us. Your arrival is connotative to the festivities that come along. You know, when you are not here, I miss the snuggly and cozy afternoons. And Of course, you would know how much I miss the delectable delights, of the season. The FOOD!!

You know it has been a long time I have had Patishapta, Narkelnadu, Matar Chooda, and Gajar Halwa. Now that you are here, let’s spread some magic of your homecoming, and let me express what all I miss when you are not here. I miss the favorite food that Maa used to make when you came. Every year!! I know you loved them too.

1. Aaloo Posto

Do you remember how much we loved this? We almost fought over who would get the most part of it. The new potatoes of the season, with light skin. Diced in big chunks, and cooked with the khus khus (posto) and green chilly paste.

And the kancha posto bata. Phew!!

Mom would always save it for you. The look on your face when you had the khus khus and the green chilly dip, with steamed rice. It was worth a look, indeed!!

2. Gajar Halwa

How do you manage so many colors? The tints of orange and red carrots, are so divine. They look lovely, and make you fall in love with them. The grated carrots, cooked with ghee and milk.

How can a recipe as simple as that, rule so many hearts! I know its your magic, Right?

3. Aaloo Diye Murgir Jhol

What is a Bengali, who does not look for a potato in the chicken curry. The potatoes, cut in half, and cooked along with the chicken gravy. That would melt in your mouth and leave you asking for more. The combination of the Curry with plain boiled rice is beyond expressions.

4. Doodh Puli

I know how much we waited for Nani to come home on Sakranti to make this for all of us. As kids, how we requested her for these seasonal delicacies. And she would be more than happy to make this for all the kids in the house, stuff a big tiffin box and visit us with her Pandora's box, every festival. What were those days! Where did they go?

5. Motor Phool Kopi Diye Mooger Dal

Talking about colors, how can we not talk about the bright green Motorshuti and the lovely whites of the Phool Kopi. The Mooger Dal cooked with green peas and cauliflowers along with steamed rice, is just the perfect comfort food you need before a small nap in the Winter afternoons.

The aroma of the dry roasted dal leaves you with an overwhelming satiation.

Now that you are here. Stay for a while. Lets dance on the tunes of the Dhaki on Durga Puja and make this memorable, until we part, to meet again.

Yours Truly,
